Chiller Plant Study: University of Alabama at Birmingham
Centrifugal chillers range from 110 tons to 4,000 tons each. Thirty-one centrifugal chillers provide chilled water needed for air conditioning in a total of 64 UAB buildings. Fifty-six of these buildings are on the Central Utilities System. This system is comprised of three plants, with 38,100 tons installed capacity. The underground chilled water piping ranges from 6 inch to 36 inch in diameter. Sixteen (16) smaller centrifugal chillers totaling 5,684 tons are located in eight decentralized buildings. Provided an evaluation and report of capital replacement costs, developed budgets and prioritized replacement schedule.
